Here, players can take either a custom car or a built in car and race against others around the world. For the first time ever, Multiplayer is available for NASCAR fans. Lightning Challenge also returns with new challenges based on the 20 NASCAR season. Many game modes return such as Season Play and Single Race. Another tutorial mode known as Thunder License teaches players how to go around all the tracks in the game. Another new game mode known as SpeedZone allows new players to learn the basics of NASCAR Racing such as how to block and share draft. Now, players take control of their own driver and have to fight their way through the NASCAR Winston Cup Series in order to gain better sponsors and team members. Also included was an updated version of Career Mode. However, if a driver is aggressive towards another, then that driver will be a Rival. If a driver shares draft with another or is part of the same team, that driver will be an Ally towards them. The most notable of these is the Alliances and Rivals feature. NASCAR Thunder 2004 features new and improved features from NASCAR Thunder 2003.
